Although Levenshulme may be largely closed and we are all getting used to that as we enter the seventh week of lockdown, the community remains very much alive and vibrant as always.
Lovely Levenshulme the Facebook community page is inundated with beautiful messages. People offering ways to help keep social and active as well as new services being offered every day to help ease some of the issues we face in lockdown, see – Blackjack brewery delivery and Virtual Lego Club.
How can you help?
Levenshulme has roughly 1,262 residents aged over 70 (the age group who have been identified as most at risk) according to the most recent census. This means that it is likely at least one person who lives near you needs assistance during the pandemic.
Levenshulme Inspire is currently running a fundraiser that will enable them to continue delivering;
- 300+ hot meals a week to elderly and vulnerable people
- Weekly groceries to those who are part of the bread and butter project
- Support to 150 people on a telephone tree
- Inspire support phoneline (0161 850 5717)
So far they have rasied £4507 of their £10000 goal.
More details can be found in Levenshulme Inspire’s official statement.
There is also a Levy Corona Helpers page on Facebook where members offer help and you may request assistance if you need it.
Reverend Katie Reeves has been updating the page with ways that you can stay in touch with your Christianity and videos of short stories for children.
Looking for something to inspire you?
Ciara Leeming, a photographer and print journalist local to Levenshulme has been getting creative during lockdown, documenting the lives of people in the community in her own way. Taking portraits of groups locked down together through their front windows, leading the subjects to often be obscured amongst reflections of Ciara and the surroundings. The full album can be found on Facebook.
